Nearby Tenterden boasts a wide range of shops and bars / restaurants, as well as being the home station for the Kent & East Sussex railway offering regular return steam train trips through the Rother Valley to the 14th Century, moated Bodiam Castle. There is plenty for active families looking to burn off energy to do with a wide variety of land and water-based activities at Bewl Water or explore the many free play areas at Bedgebury Pinetum or be more adventurous with mountain biking or Go Ape Treetop climbing.

There are regular musical and theatrical events to enjoy at Hemsted Park, the stunning new concert venue in the grounds of Benenden School, with summer concerts at nearby Hole Park as well as the Wealden Times shows. Winter sees festive Christmas light displays to enjoy at both Bedgebury Forest and Leeds Castle.
